This test method covers the ability of turbine, hydraulic, and gear oils to separate entrained air.
Air release value is the time needed to reduce the in oil included air to 0.2 % at a specific temperature.
Therefore compressed air is blown through heated oil. After the air flow stopped, the density of the oil-air dispersion and the time required for the air entrained in the oil to reduce is recorded. The content of dispersed air will be calculated from the measured density and displayed over a time diagram.
